Course Information

The text for the course is

Rudin, Principles of Mathematical Analysis, Third Edition, McGraw-Hill (1976).

As of Summer 2008, this course focuses only on Analysis in R1.  It is assumed that the student is comfortable with Probability and Statistics at the level of either Hogg, Craig, and McKean Chapters 1-4 or Casella and Berger Chapters 1-4.  Both texts make for great reference during the first year, with Casella and Berger being a recommended text for Econ 705.

To do before (during) Math Camp:

1.   Set your PennKey and password (Note: your e-mail address for your time here at Penn will be PennKey @ sas.upenn.edu, so don't get too fancy with the PennKey).

2.   Get your PennCard from the Franklin Building, Suite 150 (Franklin Building is West of Dunkin' Donuts on Walnut St. b/w 34th and 36th streets).

3.   Put PennCash on the PennCard to use the GDAL printers (GDAL is the graduate computer lab between the elevators on the third floor of McNeil).

4.   Set up a GDAL account with the SSC staff in Room 304.

5.   Email Kelly Quinn at kquinn <at> ssc.upenn.edu so that she can activate your PennCard to get you into McNeil after hours (either use your new SAS e-mail account or include your PennKey in the e-mail).

6.   Register for classes (Econ 701, 703, 705, 898 for 1st year econ students) by logging in with your PennKey and password, then clicking on 'Register'.
